Concept2 BikeErg air-resistance bike with PM5 monitor and clutch, supplied by Bench.
The Concept2 BikeErg uses the same air-resistance flywheel and PM5 monitor as the Concept2 rower and SkiErg. The flywheel gives a quiet ride that responds to effort, and the damper works like gearing: open it for a heavier feel, close it for a lighter one. A clutch lets the flywheel keep spinning when the rider stops pedalling, as on a road bike.
The PM5 shows pace, watts, cadence and calories and is calibrated so results compare directly between riders. Bluetooth and ANT+ connect heart rate belts and apps such as Concept2 ErgData and Zwift; a smartphone cradle is included.
Saddle height sets with a tool-free ratchet and the fore-aft position and angle adjust. Handlebars move up, down, forward and back with three riding positions, and the bike takes most standard saddles, handlebars and pedals. Self-tensioning polygroove belts replace a chain. The aluminium frame keeps weight to 31kg and castors make it easy to move.
